A coordinating conjunction connects two identically constructed or syntactically equal grammatical elements.

     They don't know whether they're coming or going.
     I will go with Jane
or Janet.
     She walked the isles
and stared at the groceries.
     Bob
and Jane live in Toledo.

Also used to join two independent clauses of equal importance.

     Syntax: [Independent Clause], [Coordinating Conjunction] [Independent Clause].

                     I drove the car, and I rode the bike.
                
 Notice: Both clauses are independent clauses: I drove the car. I rode the bike.

To remember them, just remember FANBOYS.
